Woodinville Wineries
Chateau Ste Michelle: Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle pioneered vinifera grape growing in the Columbia Valley and is the oldest winery in Washington State. Known for its highly acclaimed Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the chateau is located in Woodinville on 87 wooded acres that were once the summer home of Seattle lumber baron Frederick Stimson. The winery’s expansive grounds make an excellent picnic site. Complimentary guided tours and tastings are offered from 10 am to 4:30 pm daily. Reserve, single-vineyard and library wines are available for tasting for a modest fee by appointment (call 425-488-4633). During the summer, the winery is home to popular performing arts series featuring top international recording artists. Address: 14111 NE 145th Street, Woodinville, WA 98072 phone: 425.415.3300
Columbia Winery: Columbia Winery was founded by a group of wine loving friends in 1962 who predicted that Washington State could produce distinctive wines from European vinifera grapes. Long-standing partnerships with vineyards from Washington’s best growing regions, leadership in winemaking and innovations in viticulture have been hallmarks of Columbia Winery’s 45 year history. David Lake, considered the Dean of Washington Winemaking, retired in 2006 after a glorious 27 years at Columbia Winery. Kerry Norton joined Columbia Winery as Director of Winemaking in early 2007. Kerry has had many years of winemaking experience with David Lake and Washington wines. His passion for wine and commitment to quality ensures that the essence of Columbia Winery continues to reside in each bottle of wine. Gard Vintners: The word Gård, meaning farm or estate, honors the Scandinavian heritage of our family. The Lawrence family has been farming the Royal Slope, near Royal City, Wash., in Washington’s Columbia Valley for over 40 years. Brothers Hervey “Sandy” Lawrence and John Lawrence, along with John’s son Josh Lawrence, were proud to launch Gård Vintners, a product of Lawrence Cellars, in 2006 to capture the quality of our estate vineyard in the glass. Our vineyard provides the ideal conditions for growing fine wine grapes, particularly with its south-facing slope, elevation (1,365-1675 feet), and climate. The soil is a silt loam with a depth of 18-42 inches on top of fractured basalt. They are pleased with the well-draining soil along with their drip irrigation system that gives us full control over the water intake of the vines. The AlmaTerra wines project is dedicated to making wines — from diverse Washington American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) — that express terroir in every glass. Terroir is the complex interplay of climate, soils, geology, and vineyard practices that influences the character and quality of wine grapes. Pondera Winery: “The potential for our state is limitless. There has been an explosion of wineries and vineyards in Washington and incredible wines are being produced, but we are still in our infancy. The quality is getting better all the time and the best is yet to come. I am proud that Pondera Winery will be involved in getting Washington the worldwide respect it deserves. Though I look forward to making all types of wine, Bordeaux blends will be the primary focus of our winery. As a winemaker, I intend to expand our offerings to include many other wines, but my primary focus will always be on making blends with the Bordeaux varietals and to surround myself with good people, good food and great wine. This is what life is about.”-Shane Howard, Winemaker. 425-825-3917 , 12806 NE 125th Way, Kirkland, WA 98034
