There’s not much Petite Sirah produced in Washington, but Rattlesnake Hills grower Art den Hoed and his Far Away Vineyard near Grandview presented this Kirkland winery with some remarkable juice. The nose features classic dark plum, black cherry, dark chocolate, vanilla extract, cardamom and allspice. Inside, it’s got broad shoulders with a continuation of all that dark luscious fruit, chocolate and spices. There’s a bit of sweetness on the midpalate, capped by a finish of huckleberry, cigar leaf and black pepper. And fortunately, it doesn’t come with the high-octane alcohol found in many West Coast versions of Petite Sirah.

Rating: Outstanding!

Production: 148 cases

Alcohol: 13.9%
